By taking a closer look inside you will be able to have an insight into all the horses, owners, sponsors and back up team that makes Ruth Edge (nee Friend) one of the leading Event and Dressage riders in the country. The 2010 season has been yet again one of Ruth’s most successful to date finishing 6th in the British Eventing Top 100 Riders List for the second year running.

Ruth was born on the 17th August 1979 and is based in Cumbria with long standing owners and supporters Hugh & Ann Lawson. Having been based in Brampton since 2001, Ruth has made a name for herself as one of the leading riders and first shot onto the scene going clear cross country at her first Badminton aged 18 in 1998 on the diminutive Ice Dancer II.

Since then Ruth has enjoyed many high profile wins firstly becoming Young Rider National Champion in 1999 on Classic Wizard. She won her first 4 star at Luhmuhlen in 2007 on Two Thyme and has 3 British Open titles under her belt firstly in 2004 on Two Thyme and then in 2008 on Mayhem III, defending her title in 2009 on Two Thyme, Two Thyme becoming the only horse to have won the Intermediate Championships (2002) & Open Championships and one of only three horses to have won the title twice. Ruth also finished 5th in the World Cup Final in Strzegom, Poland (2009) on Future Team horse P.C.Wilson. In 2010 Ruth has had some great results finishing 2nd at Blenheim on Carnaval Prince, British Intermediate Champion on Applejack, 19th at Badminton on Nick of Thyme and 8th at Pau on Two Thyme. As far as producing the young horses Ruth has had a super year winning the 5 year old championship on the Stallion Mister Maccondy and finishing 2nd, 3rd & 5th in the 4 year old championship on Rowley Farm Houdini, Basco & Blacklaw Thymelord.

Ruth is knocking on the door of team selection having been reserve for the Beijing Olympics but having to withdraw due to an injury to Two Thyme.

Not only is Ruth known for her prowess in the Dressage phase of Eventing but she also competes in pure Dressage having 4 National titles to her name and her top horse Shadowfax on the Pathway programme for elite horses building up to the London Olympics in 2012.
